Veolia, East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council invited schools within the South Downs region to create a 60 second audio commercial to encourage other young people raise awareness and promote the message of recycling within the community.
UTV Media’s, UCreate project helped run the campaign who contacted schools in the region with the opportunity with a video brief from Veolia which was set to the students informing them of the task at hand and few details that needed to be included, the rest was left to the students creative freedom and to impress the judging panel with. 40 commercials were entered overall and Veolia went through a series of judging rounds before Barcombe CofE Primary were hailed as the winners.
As part of their prize the winning group will now get to hear their commercial professionally produced and broadcast on Uckfield FM. The students are to be interviewed on the community radio station to share their great news and listen to their commercial being played out.
Catherine Berry the teacher who lead the competition at the school said, "Moving on to create our own commercials to convince people to recycle more was a fantastic way to conclude our learning. The children loved having a real purpose for their writing and enjoyed rehearsing and recording their radio adverts, thinking about how to make them sound exciting and engaging. To have one of our groups chosen as winners of the competition was the icing on the cake!"
