Making sure that unwanted items are reused and recycled instead of just throwing them away provides a real benefit to the environment by helping to stop so much waste going into landfill and providing the resources to make new products. Well over half of waste deposited at the 14 sites by residents is now being diverted from landfill.
All of the HWRS’s are open as normal on Saturday and Sunday. Partial closures at the HWRS’s on Bank Holiday Monday include - Hailsham HWRS which will be open from 9:00 to 13:00 and Brighton HWRS will be open from 9:00 to 17:00. All other sites will be open as normal on Monday and the following sites will be closed (on Bank Holiday Monday only):
- Crowborough
- Eastbourne
- Forest Row
- Hove
- Seaford
- Wadhurst
The Household Waste Recycling sites, which are managed by Veolia in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, can take a wide variety of materials. These include bric-a-brac, car batteries, cardboard, glass, green garden waste, newspapers, magazines, rubble, soil, wood, metal (including food and drink cans), and plastic bottles.
Martin Benson, Recycling Sites Manager for Veolia says: “Many people use the Bank Holiday period for a good clear out and we want to encourage them to bring items to the recycling sites where they can be put to good use.”
