Recycling hits 53% in Hastings and Rother

The new Household Waste Recycling Site in Hastings has seen a massive increase in the amount that residents are recycling since it opened its doors just over a year ago.

The site which is operated by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council was developed to make it easier for residents to recycle with its modern split level design.

The results speak for themselves as Veolia announced that recent figures show that the recycling rates in 2011 were 37% but since the new site was operational it jumped to a whopping 53%.

Martin Benson, Household Waste Recycling Sites Manager for Veolia South Downs commented:

“Our aim when building the site was to get everyone in Hastings and Rother  recycling more so we needed to make it as easy as possible for them."

“When developing the new split-level site the intention was to provide easy to access recycling for everyone in the Hastings and Rother area, this is obviously working judging by recent recycling figures. I would like to thank residents of Hastings and Rother for the fantastic effort that they have made since the new site opened and hopefully we can recycle even more in 2014.”
