Heathfield Household Waste Recycling Site’s waste warriors celebrated!

Heathfield and Waldron Rotary Club have awarded the Heathfield Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) team a ‘Services to the Community’ Award.  Members of Rotary Club recently attended the site and unveiled a plaque which is displayed for members of the public to see when they visit to recycle their waste.

Martin Benson Household Waste Recycling Sites manager for Veolia said:  “Well done to Vanessa, Josh, Luke and the team for their excellent customer service which has led to winning this award.”

Materials that can be recycled at the site include green waste, cardboard, paper, glass and plastic bottles, you can also dispose of unwanted household items at the on-site re-use shop.

Making sure that waste is reused as much as possible and recycled instead of just throwing it away provides a real benefit to the environment by helping to stop so much waste going into landfill and providing the resources to make new products.

Most of the waste deposited at the 14 sites by residents is now being diverted from landfill, with many sites regularly diverting around 90%.

Heathfield HWRS is one of 14 managed by Veolia on behalf of East Sussex and Brighton & Hove as part of a 30 year integrated waste management service which also includes composting and recovery.

Nationally Veolia has been awarded two of the UK's most prestigious business accolades for its role as an environmental and social sustainability leader. It was recognised in 2016 as Business in the Community's Responsible Business of the Year, and in 2014 it was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
