This year, over 500 children from various primary schools and residents from South Downs have taken part in National Recycle Week 2015 activities.
The theme for National Recycle Week 2015 is “Recycling in the home” and Veolia’s various events across the County and City are the perfect way to raise awareness of this.
During the month of National Recycle Week, pupils and residents visiting the Materials Recovery Facility in Hollingdean were fitted with hard hats and hi-vis vests and then taken on a tour of the recycling facility.
Other residents and pupils visited Veolia’s information kiosks at Newhaven Fish Festival and Uckfield Road Safety Day and undertook various activities including investigating different types of waste, covering key topics like the different things that you can and can’t recycle, health and safety, recycling around the home and the local environment and children were given the opportunity to enter a recycling competition and win a goodie bag.
Allan Key General Manager for Veolia South Downs said: “The behind-the-scenes tour, on-site lessons and information kiosks at events are designed to give school children and residents an insight into the entire network of our recycling operations, raise awareness of the circular economy and the importance of disposing of your waste properly.

Veolia South Downs has a 30 year contract for the delivery of an integrated waste management service across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. Working in partnership with both East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, it is committed to providing a sustainable approach to managing the area’s household waste.
